To fully understand the impact stress has on our health, we need to first define it. Stress is any physical, chemical or emotional factor that causes bodily tension and is a major factor in disease causation including headaches, high blood pressure, heart disease, digestive issues, and decreased immune function. In today's fast paced world, people deal with more stress than ever before and its estimated that anywhere from 40-80% of all hospital visits are due to stress. We also need to understand that stress is ever present, but not all stress is bad, it can be positive or negative. So the goal in dealing with stress correctly is to increase the amount of positive stress which comes from proper exercise, a healthy diet, adequate rest and other healthy lifestyle choices; while limiting negative stress from work, toxins, and other problems we deal with on a daily basis.
